Week 6: Monochrome

We are six weeks into the #52creatives and yesterday as part of my challenge to distract my hands from the bad habit of nail biting… I powered through one of my colouring cards. But I only had the one colour to work with. Black. Well two, if you count the white card ☺️.

Working with just black and white gave my brain a new kind of challenge, balancing the light and dark. My mind started to wonder about how black and white can represent simplicity, but also be complex. Isn’t it incredible that removing colour can create a real essence of drama.

And it’s this variety that inspired this week’s prompt - Monochrome

Working within a single colour or tone can sharpen focus, evoke emotion, and create striking visuals.

Consider how removing colour can change the way we see the world. A black-and-white photograph can highlight textures and shadows, a poem stripped of embellishment can reveal raw emotion, and a drawing limited to one shade can feel deeply expressive.

Share your interpretations with #52creatives. Challenge yourself to work within a monochrome palette this week. Capture an image in black and white, write using only stark contrasts, or create an artwork with just one colour.
